PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) – Kimberly Wilson came out of retirement several years ago to serve as the city’s finance director.
This week, Wilson said, she abruptly learned from Mayor Carletta Davis that she was out of a job. She said the mayor did not offer her an explanation.
“I was called in, and the mayor said she was sorry to say that our position here together, it was time for it to end, that she was going in a different direction for the Finance Department. … I didn’t see it coming,” she told FOX10 News. “I was surprised.”
It was just the latest development in a months-long tug-of-war between the mayor and the Prichard City Council over city finances.
Some council members contend that the mayor has kept them in the dark about spending and contracts. Earlier this year, the council voted 3-2 to hire an outside firm to take an independent look at city finances.
