Eleven startup businesses devised by middle and high school students have been given a total of $7,500 to help bring their ideas to life.
The students pitched their ideas to a panel of five investors at a Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Investor Panel event at Northwood University.
“Tonight you witnessed the birth of 11 new small businesses,” said Dow Corning Corp.’s Randall Rozin, who emceed the event. “It’s only the first step in a long journey to success.”
Dow Corning is a major sponsor of the program, which was started in 2004 at the University of Rochester and has spread across the country. The goal of YEA! is to provide entrepreneurship education, leadership development and innovation training. Locally, the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce runs the program.
The entrepreneurs will showcase their businesses at a YEA! Trade Show on May 10 at the Midland Mall.
