A fast-moving fire destroyed a storage shed belonging to a local landscaping business on Wednesday evening in West End. Despite the rapid response of local fire departments, the structure and nearby equipment were reduced to rubble within minutes.
The fire broke out sometime between 6:30 and 7 p.m. at a property down a long dirt road in the 3000 block of N.C. Highway 73. West End fire officials on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that they were alerted to the incident when a concerned citizen contacted them about a possible fire in the area, prompting officials to respond for a smoke investigation.
While en route, the fire chief spotted a large column of smoke and requested a structure fire response. One firefighter reported seeing smoke from N.C. 211 in West End.
Units arrived to find a storage shed fully engulfed in flames and immediately began a fire attack.
