Going to Seward in April is completely different from a midsummer visit.
There’s no traffic and no problem finding a place to park. The streets are wide open, without the summertime throngs watching the Mount Marathon race or trading fish stories at the Seward Alehouse.
But there’s a hum in the air. The whole community is gearing up for a big summer. Downtown, there’s a new new cruise ship dock under construction. Also, the Harbor360 Hotel is under construction, adding more rooms on the water.
The Alaska Sealife Center is open for visitors and its staff is busy with its research and rehabilitation programs. The AVTEC (Alaska Vocational Technical Center) campus hosts students from around the state.
