STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Steubenville city officials have voted to hire a new economic development director, a move they say is aimed at helping the city turn its assets into completed projects and grow its tax base.
During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, officials voted unanimously to offer a contract to Jason Hamman for the part-time position.
Six months ago, several city officials met with state department heads to discuss how an economic development director could help Steubenville.
“We have a lot of assets in the city that we have to have developed, and we don’t really have the resource or the expertise in house to get those projects over the finish line,” Councilman Tracy McManamon said.
Hamman also works as an economic development director for Monroe County, a role he has held for a decade. McManamon said Hamman’s experience was a key factor in the decision.
