LANSING, Mich. — Michigan House Republicans are advocating for a comprehensive overhaul of the state’s economic development rules and regulations.
Rep. Bill G. Schuette expressed concern after witnessing large corporations attempt to build in Michigan, only for deals to fall through.
Rep. Schuette cited the Gotion site in West Michigan as an example.
He says there needs to be a level playing field for all businesses, regardless of size, to invest in the area.
“I think if you look at Mundy Township, if you look at Goshen, if you look at a long history of these attempts by the state of Michigan to again do big fish hunting, right big checks. These projects don’t end up materializing. The jobs don’t happen and the Michigan taxpayer is left with the bill,” Schuette said.
Schuette believes the newly introduced legislation will garner bipartisan support.
