Baja California enters recession as economic activity slumps for second straight quarter
Baja California’s economy has officially entered a recessionary period, following a sharp 2.2% contraction in the third quarter of 2025, according to new data released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
The decline marks the second consecutive quarter of negative growth for the border state, which saw a 1.0% dip in the second quarter of 2024. Under standard economic definitions, two back-to-back quarters of contraction constitute a formal recession, La Voz newspaper reported.
