HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ — McMillan’s Bakery will reopen, marking a new era after the iconic family business was thought to have permanently closed.
The McMillan family ran the Haddon Township bakery for 86 years, permanently closing it in May — or so they thought. New ownership now plans to remodel and reopen the eatery known for its cream doughnuts and holiday-season lines out the door, according to reports.
Entrepreneur Tom Whitman purchased the McMillan’s building on 15 Haddon Ave.. He plans to revive the business, with the founder’s grandson Doug Biemiller returning as head baker, according to 42 Freeway.
Whitman plans to spend $1.5 million to $2 million on renovations and reopen McMillan’s early next year, he told The Philadelphia Inquirer. He also owns South Jersey eateries Del Buono’s Bakery and Carmen’s Deli.
