— I had four immigrant grandparents. They were all from Sweden. Hard working. Patriotic. Willing to do work that longtime Americans would not do.
Personally, at my last parish, in Los Angeles, my whole grounds and maintenance crew were from Mexico. Hardest working people to ever have been my work colleagues. They were dedicated to their families, generous of spirit, always willing to help others, and intent on sending their kids to college, building wealth for the next generation by saving and working side jobs to be able to buy homes.
As a priest, I noted that their religious faith was the center of their lives along with their family.
So it is puzzling to me that so many people are worried about immigrants, and migrants and speaking ill of them. Perhaps they don’t know any immigrants. Perhaps they do not know that immigration is…
