The General Assembly Joint Finance Committee has begun reviewing Fiscal Year 2026 spending requests — a budget that’s very much in flux.
The hearings started Tuesday. The 12-member panel is working from a $6.6-billion budget proposal presented by former Governor John Carney as he was leaving office in January to become Mayor of Wilmington. Governor Matt Meyer is expected to submit a budget proposal in March.
Carney’s plan as submitted would maintain a budget stabilization fund. It would fund a second year of recommended raises for teachers while investing into housing and economic development. Also, growth in Medicaid would be accounted for.
