At a time when some headlines predict economic gloom, the economist Christopher Thornberg told a Napa audience that the data paints a brighter picture — especially for Napa County and its wine industry.
“If you want to think about the economy, there are two things you need to be looking at,” said Thornberg, founding partner of Beacon Economics, speaking Nov. 6 at the Napa Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Outlook Conference.
“One is economic reality; the objective data I see on a day-to-day basis. But there’s a whole other element — our social narrative,” he said during the conference at Napa’s Westin Verasa hotel. Thornberg said those two perspectives often don’t align.
