Some Canberra hospitality businesses are finding themselves disadvantaged by renewable energy policies.
Evoke Bakery is an award-winning local business which opened in Curtin in 2022. They have since expanded to sites at Spence and Kippax shops.
Owner Tom Lambert told Region that he was looking at opening a new location in Dickson at the site formerly occupied by Commonwealth Bank, which has sat empty for a long time. They were very close to signing the lease when they hit a major snag: the ban on new gas connections meant that all equipment would need to be electric, but the site wouldn’t support a powerful enough connection.
