Jeff Price was coming off a seven-year stretch as president of SI Digital and then The Sporting News when he turned to Glenn Wong for career advice.
Almost a year into the search for his next job, Price was weighing two options: one that would put him on the emerging social side of sports media and another in a newly created role as chief commercial officer of the PGA of America.
Wong was head of the sports management department at the University of Massachusetts when Price earned his master’s there in 1989. He remembers being intimidated by Wong on his first visit to the school and floored when, on the first day of his sports law class, Wong announced that his cohort was the least qualified of any they’d recruited in his 10 years at the school.
