With support from Halton Black Voices and community advocates, Oakville has joined Burlington in acknowledging the importance of supporting and celebrating local Black entrepreneurs
For the first time, the town of Oakville has officially recognized Black Business Awareness Month, with a proclamation reading held at Town Hall on Tuesday (Aug. 26, 2025) morning.
The proclamation was read by Oakville Councillor Peter Longo, acting mayor for the event, who represents Ward 4 and has served on council since 2018.
The initiative was led in partnership with Halton Black Voices, which has been highlighting Black-owned businesses across Burlington and Oakville through community campaigns and events.
For board member Chizoba Obidigbo-Egbo, the recognition signals a broader shift in awareness.
