An 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Russia highlighted some of the gaps in the state’s emergency response system, the lawmakers said.
LINCOLN CITY, Ore. — From sunset Tuesday to well after sunrise Wednesday, the tsunami’s threat still lingered for those on the Oregon Coast after a magnitude 8.8 earthquake off the coast of Russia sent shockwaves through the Pacific. That seismic activity prompted first a watch, then an advisory.
By the time the advisory was lifted, officials reported small tsunami waves, ranging 1 to 2 feet in height, reached the shoreline. The event turned out to be more of a dry run.
