The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association men’s and women’s basketball tournaments that took place in Baltimore generated a total economic impact of $33.6 million — the highest mark in the tournament’s five-year stay in the city, the league and Visit Baltimore announced Thursday morning.
More than 8,200 fans visited CFG Bank Arena on Feb. 28 to watch the Winston-Salem State women defeat Fayetteville State, 60-43, for their first title in school history and the Fayetteville State men rally to overtake Bluefield State, 71-68 — a 36% increase from the prior year, according to both organizations. More than 33,000 attendees populated the tournament’s 22-game offering between Feb. 24 and March 1.
