AI models have required rethinking the GPU stack. And now agents are doing the same thing for CPUs.
Ironically, the direction compute has taken over the last decade has made it less suitable for AI. The driving forces have been focused on human developers pushing platforms to offer higher levels of abstraction, much more opinionated approaches to state management, and heavily focused on devX.
But it’s increasingly clear that AI agents just want a computer. By that I mean a complete OS install, fully stateful, and compute that can run locally, or in the cloud. And agents need a lot of compute. In fact the recent upsurge in agents has resulted in a massive CPU shortage alongside the model-induced GPU shortage.
So similar to GPUs, now it is time to rethink the execution layer for agents. And we’re extremely excited to be investing in Runta…
