While visitors to the South Texas State Fair keep their eyes on the rides and food, organizers say the event is also designed to generate revenue that helps boost the local economy.
The South Texas State Fair is known for its food, fun and family attractions, but vendors and organizers say its impact on the region often goes unnoticed. David Juss Rapalais, co-owner of Smash Wagon, said the fair provides a significant lift for area businesses. “This is contrary to popular belief, this is actually a huge boost to local business only because I would say probably 70% of vendors out here are local businesses from this area right here,” Rapalais said.
The Young Men’s Business League hosts the event each year and says the fair can bring in more than 15,000 people in a single day. Rapalais said the size of the event draws crowds that are difficult for other attractions to match….
