BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham City Council has approved an agreement with American Cast Iron Pipe Company that will allow the longtime manufacturer to move forward with a major expansion of its facilities and corporate headquarters.
The project represents a $790 million investment from ACIPCO, one of Birmingham’s oldest companies. Founded in 1905, the company is now the largest manufacturing employer in the region.
ACIPCO currently employs approximately 1,687 workers at its Birmingham site and generated more than $303 million in payroll in 2024, according to city officials.
Following the expansion, the company expects to add 80 new full-time jobs, with average wages projected to be higher than typical manufacturing salaries.
