A cash-strapped local authority has sold an award-winning business park for nearly £7 million.
Medway Council has clinched a £6.78 million deal with the previous head tenant for the freehold of Gillingham Business Park.
The sale of the 100-acre site will boost revenue to help meet the council’s budget shortfall of £10million this year and predicted £25million next year.
It was built in the late 1980’s with its mixed use of retail, office, leisure and industrial units geared towards attracting investment and boosting the local economy.
The new owners are Zurich Assurance, the previous head tenant of the business park.
The park, between the A2 and Hoath Way, is home to retail chains including Aldi, Poundland, Screwfix B&Q and Pets at Home.
Major companies like Virgin Media, Fuji Seal and Henry Schein UK Holdings are well established.
