STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Steubenville city officials on Tuesday talked about enacting an tax abatement program, which some believe could benefit the area.
The topic was discussed during an economic development meeting and 2nd Ward Councilman Tracy McManamon brought the proposal to council.
Officials researched the program for about three months and McManamon said the program could attract new businesses to the area.
“I think it’s a win-win for everybody,” McManamon said. “We have to be creative. This is something new. This is something forward thinking, if you will.”
The Community Reinvestment Act and the tax increment financing, also known as the TIF program, are both ‘tools’ that could help support the city’s efforts.
The abatement program would be citywide and give officials the ability to work on different areas within the city.
