SALADO, Texas — Teachers and school administrators could see new investments in public education as soon as next school year, after Governor Greg Abbott signed a record ten-figure investment in public schools into law on Wednesday. Nearly half of that is dedicated to teacher pay raises alone.
Governor Abbott signed House Bill 2, the $8.5 billion investment, into law in Salado, speaking alongside Representative Brad Buckley, who represents Salado, and Senator Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, who were the leading legislators behind the negotiations that resulted in the final package. Abbott called it a “significant step” toward making Texas the leading state in public education.
Asked by a CBS Austin reporter what investments the state should make in the future to solidify Texas’ number-one ranking, Governor Abbott said, “We’ve got to earn that title. And we’ll earn that every single day…
