Twenty-five states have taken legal action in the U.S. Court of International Trade against President Donald Trump, challenging his recent imposition of double-digit tariffs on 60 economies.
In their court filing on Monday, the states, including New York, argued that the tariffs were unlawful and constituted an attempt to replace the import duties the Supreme Court had struck down in February.
They accused Mr Trump of trying to impose additional costs on families and businesses and asked the court to halt tariff implementation.
Days ago, the Trump administration imposed new tariffs on goods from 59 countries, including Nigeria, and the European Union over their alleged failure ”to impose a legal prohibition on the importation of goods produced wholly or in part with forced labour and to effectively enforce such a prohibition.”
